Ingredients
100 % Black tea Darjeeling SFTGFOP1 Balasun 2026Infusion and flavour of the tea
Like other Darjeelings from the first harvest, the Balasun has a fresh apricot-coloured infusion. Its flavour is rich, full-bodied and distinctly floral with traces of spice. It can also be described as deliciously delicate, as the tea contains young, very tender leaves. The tea's aftertaste is pleasantly surprising in its long duration and sweetness.
Origin of the tea
''Let's make this world a better place with every sip of tea.'': say the current owners of the tea garden in Darjeeling, India. Famous for both its long history of cultivating Chinese tea plants (Camellia sinensis) and the incredibly thorough processing of their leaves, the site is about 20 kilometres from the ''tea capital'' of Darjeeling in West Bengal. The nearest village is called Sonada.
The Balasun tea complex was established in 1871. At that time, it was called Nahore Balasun. It was later renamed Balasun after the river flowing through the lower end of the garden. In 2005, the garden was taken over by Jayshree Tea & Industries Ltd. Today, it is considered one of the best-managed tea plantations with many varieties of high-quality tea.
The actual production of Darjeeling tea is done using traditional methods. The leaves are picked by local women, and the processing is done manually or by machine. Balasun tea is typical for the uniform size and colour of its leaves. You can recognise a first harvest Darjeeling Balasun by its longer, dark green leaves, with many silvery tips (buds).
The abbreviation SGTGFOP (Super Fine Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe) in the tea's name indicates that it is the highest grade of Darjeeling.
The tea from the first harvest of Darjeeling Balasun is not intended for long-term storage. Enjoy the freshness and certain juiciness early. Its aroma and taste will transport you to the distant hills of India. Above that, they will contribute to your mental and physical well-being. It is full of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. Thanks to the higher theine content, you will beat spring fatigue in two sips.
